About

When I was in elementary school I found a “Yankee Home Darkroom Kit” stored in a bathroom cabinet. My photographic journey started with a Kodak 120 folding bellows camera that belonged to my dad, developing the film in the bathroom and making contact prints. That lead to a Minolta Hi-Matic 35 mm range finder camera and a makeshift darkroom in my bedroom closet that was just large enough to make 11x14” black and white prints. Dissatisfied with my ability to create quality images I traded in my camera for a Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic with black body and a 50mm f/1.4 lens. I still have that camera and loved the quality of images that I could produce. After seeing the images of Ansel Adams in “Yosemite and the Range of Light,” I knew that my true artistic passion was landscape photography and large scale black-and-white prints. That required a larger negative to achieve the appropriate level of quality. I briefly experimented with a Mamiya C220 and then after much saving I acquired my dream camera, a Pentax 6x7 with 105 mm f/2.4 lens. I took that camera everywhere and continue to use it to this day. In college, the gift of building an extraordinary darkroom in the home of a close friend allowed me to produce fine art 16x20” prints for many years.

As a father to my extraordinary young daughters, I immediately recognized the need to embrace digital photography. An Olympus first-generation DSLR camera started my journey. Unhappy with the quality (and the autofocus delay), I upgraded to a Canon 5D with an 85mm f/1.2 lens. I treasure the 85mm lens which is reliably sharp and now pair it with both a Canon 5D Mark 4 and a Canon D5SR.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy the images that I have produced over the years, a few of which are presented in this website, and also hope you will visit when I exhibit at local art festivals.
